# The same app can live in two different worlds

Why country, language and storefront belong in every serious app comparison.

An app appears expensive in one market and ordinary in another. Its reviews praise a feature in English and complain about a different workflow elsewhere. The name is the same; the competitive situation isn't.

Country research starts by resisting the urge to label one global screenshot “the market.”

## Compare like with like

Record the store, country, language and date for every observation. Compare prices in their original currencies before doing any conversion. A converted dollar amount is useful arithmetic, but it doesn't tell you what feels affordable to a local customer.

For an imagined budgeting app, a currency selector may be a minor convenience. Local bank compatibility may determine whether the product works at all. Translation and localization are different research questions.

## Read the local alternatives

Don't build a country comparison entirely from the same international brands. Search for local vocabulary and local competitors. Ask someone familiar with the market to check whether your search phrases describe the problem naturally.

A small app you overlooked may fit a local payment habit or institutional workflow better than a global incumbent. Treat that as something to investigate, not automatic proof of a moat.

## Keep the unknowns visible

If you can inspect only one country's reviews, say so. If a price comes from a listing rather than the checkout flow, record that distinction. Don't merge several markets into a neat average that no actual buyer experiences.

Choose one market for the next test and explain why. Your first product does not need to address every storefront. It needs an audience whose situation you understand well enough to make useful decisions.

The map is part of the product brief. It isn't decoration on the revenue chart.
