# The checklist has to survive dirty hands and no signal

A narrow field workflow can be a useful app niche when ordinary forms fail in the actual working environment.

A checklist designed at a desk may behave very differently beside a noisy machine, outdoors in glare or in a basement without service.

The opportunity hypothesis is a narrow field-recording workflow for one kind of small operator. It is not a recommendation to automate regulated inspections without the relevant expertise.

## Observe the working conditions

Study a routine, low-risk task with the people who perform it. Note lighting, gloves, connectivity, interruptions and the information they need to capture. Ask where mistakes or repeated transcription occur.

The app may need fewer fields, larger targets and a reliable local draft more than it needs an elaborate dashboard.

## Prototype the handoff

Capture one completed checklist and produce the exact report the recipient needs. Test whether photos, timestamps and notes remain attached to the correct job. Include correction and export rather than assuming every first entry is perfect.

Keep customer and site information private, with access controls that fit the team. A shared login can appear convenient while making accountability and revocation difficult.

## Find the commercial unit

Determine whether the buyer values a per-person tool, a team workflow or a completed report. Ask what they currently pay in time or software costs. Do not infer willingness to pay solely from the seriousness of the work.

Support can dominate a small business product if every customer needs a unique form. Look for a repeatable core before promising unlimited customization.

A useful pilot should show less repeated work and a report people can actually use. Stop if the workflow requires extensive consulting that the proposed price cannot fund.

The niche is attractive only when the product fits the place where the work happens. A perfect form that cannot be completed there is still unfinished.
