Through augmented and virtual reality, you will hear from the founders, Bill and JoAnn Barton, and learn about the Yaqo'n people, now members of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, who were the first to call this area home. Explore further to hear about the contributions of T. Egenton Hogg, discover the story of the West Yaquina community, understand the region's role during World War I, and even "climb" the West Yaquina Heritage Tree with a scientist. Additionally, the app highlights current conservation efforts and the ongoing restoration of old growth habitats, while teaching about the preserve's diverse ecosystems and the importance of student science in all Yakona does.
