VoiceLens is an assistive reading companion designed primarily for blind and visually impaired users. It helps make everyday reading more accessible by using your phone’s camera to recognize printed text and read it aloud. For someone who cannot easily see printed information, simple things like reading a sign, checking a product label, understanding a document, or choosing something from a menu can mean asking another person for help. VoiceLens is designed to reduce that dependency and give users a more independent way to access the information around them. How VoiceLens works: Point your camera at the text you want to read. It could be a sign, book page, document, menu, label, package, notice, or other printed material. VoiceLens uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to recognize the text. The recognized content is then converted into speech so you can listen through your phone’s speaker or headphones. You can adjust the reading speed and volume to make listening more comfortable, whether you are reading a short label or several pages of text. Multilingual support: India is home to many languages, and VoiceLens is built to support users who rely on different languages in their everyday lives. Currently supported languages include: Hindi Marathi Bengali Telugu Tamil Kannada Gujarati VoiceLens also supports several African languages: Amharic Afrikaans Swahili Tigrinya More languages can be added over time, helping make accessible reading available to more people across different regions and communities. Built to work offline: One of VoiceLens’s key advantages is its ability to provide reading assistance without depending on an internet connection. The app can perform text recognition and text-to-speech processing directly on the device. This means you can use it in places with poor connectivity, while travelling, in remote areas, or whenever an internet connection is unavailable. It also means you don't have to worry about using mobile data every time you want to read something. Your privacy matters: VoiceLens is designed with on-device processing in mind. When you use the app to read personal documents, letters, bills, labels, or other private information, keeping that information on your device can provide an additional layer of privacy.
