YouTube's algorithm rewards what is already big. Varia looks for what isn't. Varia is a discovery layer for YouTube channels. Every channel is checked against a quality bar before it reaches you, then sorted by language and subject into shelves you can browse calmly. No infinite feed, nothing plays on its own, no notifications pulling you back in. WHAT IT TAKES TO APPEAR HERE Before a channel shows up in Varia it has to clear three checks: it uploaded something within the past year, at least 60% of its long-form videos are HD, and it has at least three long-form videos. Channels that post only Shorts don't make it through. Nothing below that bar is ever shown to you. HIDDEN GEMS Channels between 1,000 and 300,000 subscribers with a real body of work get flagged separately and mixed into the shelves alongside better-known names. The point is that you actually find something — not that you see the same channels again. BROWSE THE WAY YOU WANT • Shelves by topic and language, recalculated every day • Topic chips — tap one and the shelves become a grid of that subject • Search the catalogue by channel name • Roll the dice for one good channel picked at random • Similar channels on every channel page ELEVEN LANGUAGES The interface and the channel catalogue both speak English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Arabic. You pick which languages of content you want on your home screen — separately from the language the app itself is in. WATCH WITHOUT LEAVING Tap a video on a channel page and it plays right there, in YouTube's own embedded player. When you want the channel itself, YouTube is one tap away. WHAT VARIA DELIBERATELY DOESN'T DO No infinite scroll. Nothing plays until you tap it. No comments, no likes, no follower counts. Your follow list is yours alone and no other user can see it. No banner ads, no interstitials. SIGN IN ONLY IF YOU WANT TO You can browse freely and follow up to five channels without an account. Signing in with Apple or Google lifts that limit and carries your list across devices. If you sign in with Google you can also import your YouTube subscriptions — they are used only to sharpen your recommendations and are never added to your follow list.
