Is the US market open right now? New York trades while much of the world sleeps, and the answer moves twice a year when daylight saving time shifts. US Stock Time works out the current state of the market and counts down to the next change — in your own time zone. ◆ What it does ・Tells you the market's state at a glance Regular hours (MARKET OPEN), pre-market, after-hours, closed, holidays and half days, each in its own colour. Six possible states, one look. ・Counts down to the next open or close Hours, minutes and seconds. During the session it runs to the closing bell; when the market is shut it runs to the next open. ・Widgets that keep counting on their own Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show the status and a countdown that ticks down second by second, without opening the app. ・On your wrist, and on its own Complications for the circular, rectangular, inline and corner slots put the market's state on your watch face. The Apple Watch app runs independently — you can install it on the Watch without installing the iPhone app at all. ・Handles daylight saving time for you EDT and EST are detected automatically. The app shows Eastern time alongside your local time, so there is nothing left to convert in your head. ・A 24-hour timeline shows where you are Pre-market, the regular session and after-hours are drawn as bands, with a marker at the current moment. You can see how far off the open is without reading a number. ・Holidays and early closes are calculated, not listed Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Good Friday and the rest, plus the half days that close at 13:00 ET — the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, the day before Independence Day. The next holiday and the next early close are always on screen. ・A conversion table for the sessions Pre-market, regular and after-hours, given in Eastern time and in your local time, for both summer and winter. ・Landscape layout Turn the phone and the display becomes two columns with larger figures — readable from across a desk. ◆ Who it is for ・Anyone holding US equities from outside New York ・Anyone who does not want to miss an earnings call or a jobs report ・Anyone tired of looking up whether daylight saving has started ・Anyone who just wants to know how many hours are left before the open ◆ No ads, no network There are no advertisements in this app, and no affiliate links. Beyond that, the app has no networking code at all. Trading hours are worked out from the date arithmetic on your device, so nothing is sent anywhere. No data is collected, and no account is needed.
