Store description excerpt
Chatto teaches you hiragana and katakana through two practice modes: a multiple-choice quiz for building recognition, and a chat-style typing mode where you practice on a real Japanese keyboard. Most kana apps stop at recognition. Chatto adds typing, so you're building both skills at once. QUIZ MODE See a kana character, pick the correct reading from four options. Wrong answers are drawn from visually similar characters so you have to look closely, not just guess. Questions go both directions: kana to romaji and romaji to kana. CHAT MODE A conversation-style screen that looks and feels like iMessage. Sensei sends you a romaji prompt, you type the kana on a Japanese keyboard. If you're stuck for 8 seconds, a hint appears with no penalty. The goal is to learn the character, not struggle through it. PROGRESS Start with the 46 base hiragana or katakana characters. As your accuracy improves, the voiced dakuten characters unlock and your deck keeps growing. A floating stats bar in both modes shows your streak, accuracy, and progress as you go. A FEW OTHER THINGS WORTH KNOWING - Works with any Japanese keyboard already set up on your iPhone - Response time records surface inline when you beat your best - No daily streak pressure, no subscriptions - Free to download, with an optional tip jar if you want to support development Chatto is a one-person project. Feedback is always welcome. Chatto uses the standard Apple EULA at: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
