Are the tunnel lifts working today? If you walk through the Greenwich or Woolwich foot tunnels regularly, it's a fair question. There are nearly 90 steps at Greenwich, more at Woolwich, and the lifts don't always run. Thames Foot Tunnels checks the Royal Borough of Greenwich's status page and shows which lifts are open. Switch between Greenwich (Cutty Sark / Island Gardens) and Woolwich (Royal Arsenal / North Woolwich) with a tap. For wheelchair users, parents with pushchairs, and cyclists, a closed lift means turning back or going the long way round. Worth knowing before you set off. What's in the app: - Live status for both tunnels, from the council's feed - Community reports when other walkers find the official status is out of date - Notifications when a lift's state changes - Home Screen and Apple Watch widgets - Works offline with the last known status The Greenwich tunnel opened in 1902 and Woolwich in 1912 — both built by the London County Council so dockworkers could cross the Thames in any weather.
