Store description excerpt
TextMeter is a fast, offline text analyzer for readers, writers, editors, and nerds in general. Most "readability" tools give you a single invented number: a grade level built on syllable-counting heuristics, or a probabilistic guess from an LLM that won't give you the same answer twice. TextMeter does neither. It ranks every word in your document against the New General Service List and its 31,000-word research extension, a real linguistic benchmark, not a formula. The same document always produces the same numbers, and you can see exactly how each word was categorized: no black box, no invented score. It also shows you how the writing is put together, not just what it's made of. TextMeter counts the kinds of word a document leans on, the two- and three-word phrases it returns to, and the words its sentences begin with — the habits that are invisible while you're writing and obvious once they're counted. Again: counted, not judged. Analysis runs entirely on your device. No account, no ads, no tracking, no server round-trip. TextMeter can analyze a full-length novel in seconds, and nothing you paste or open ever leaves your device. WHAT YOU GET • Vocabulary, not a grade level: every word ranked against a 31,000-word research benchmark, with full transparency into the categorization • Phrasing: See how the text uses descriptive words and which phrases it returns to the most. • Find the outliers: interactive graphs and sortable lists take you straight to the longest sentences, the rarest vocabulary, the most repeated phrases, the most frequent content words, and more • Every word accounted for: see which part of speech each word was read as, including where the reading is arguable • Bring your own documents: open .txt, .md, .rtf, .epub, .pdf, and .docx, or just paste your text in • Entirely on your device: no account, no advertising, no tracking • Totally native: looks and works great on all your devices. All analysis features are free. A one-time purchase (no subscription) adds: • History for more than one analysis at a time • iCloud sync across your devices • Batch importing so you can analyze dozens of files at once • CSV export to take your results into a spreadsheet Find some text — an article, an essay, an academic paper, even an epic novel — and press one button. That's it.
