Store description excerpt

Felt something? Terremoto answers the first three questions in seconds: where was it, how big was it, and how close to you. Terremoto is a fast, map-first earthquake tracker built on live USGS data. Open the app and the world's latest seismic activity is already on the map — color-coded by magnitude, with your position on it. Switch to the list to scan recent events at a glance, each with magnitude, location, time, and distance from you. Tap any event for the full picture on its own map: how hard it shook, how many people felt it, depth, coordinates, alert level, and tsunami flag. SEE WHERE THE SHAKING REACHED A magnitude number tells you how much energy the rupture released. It does not tell you who felt it. For larger earthquakes Terremoto draws the USGS ShakeMap intensity contours straight onto the map — colored bands running from light shaking at the outer edge to severe or violent near the epicenter — so the reach of the event is something you can see rather than infer. Alongside it, USGS PAGER estimates how many people were inside each intensity band, names the nearby towns with the shaking modeled for each, and adds its own notes on past earthquakes in the area. Contours and population estimates appear when USGS publishes them, which is mainly for larger events; smaller ones list the nearest named places instead. Where people filed reports, the event also shows the intensity they reported through USGS Did You Feel It, and how many reports that rests on. KNOW WHEN IT HAPPENS NEAR YOU Turn on alerts and Terremoto tells you when USGS publishes an earthquake near you. Choose how close it has to be, from 25 km to 500 km, and how strong, from M2.5 up. Alerts arrive after USGS publishes the event — usually a few minutes after the shaking. This is a fast, factual notification, not an early-warning system. Your position is rounded on your device to an area about 5 km across before anything is sent, so your exact location never leaves your phone. Turn alerts off and it is deleted. TUNE THE FEED TO WHAT MATTERS Watching for local tremors? Set the feed to the past hour or day. Following major activity worldwide? Widen it to the week or month and raise the magnitude floor — 1.0, 2.5, 4.5, or significant events only. Your filters are one tap away and always visible, so you always know what you're looking at. FIND ANYTHING, FAST Search by place — a city, a region, a country — and jump straight to the events that match. Distances update from your location so "close to home" is a number, not a guess. BUILT FOR CLARITY WHEN IT COUNTS - Nearby earthquake alerts, by distance and magnitude - Live map with magnitude-scaled, color-coded markers - Recent-events list with location, magnitude, time, and distance - Full event detail: depth, coordinates, alert level, tsunami warning - Shaking intensity contours drawn from USGS ShakeMap - Population exposure by intensity, estimated by USGS PAGER - Reported shaking and felt-report counts from USGS Did You
