Drums that know where the music turns. Every other drum generator asks what genre you want and how busy it should be. Talea asks where your music turns — and then plays it. HOW IT WORKS • Set the bars, the time signature and the tempo, and mark a section wherever the music changes. That is enough — chords are optional. • Talea works out which bars the form leans on: a section arriving, a phrase closing, the ending. Gold ticks on the timeline show you where, before you press play. • The fill lands in the bar before the turn. The crash lands on the downbeat after it. The louds and softs lift into the turn and settle after. • Press Generate. Press Next take for another reading of the same form. WHAT'S INSIDE • Fifteen styles. Ten for the kit: rock, pop, funk/R&B, jazz, bossa nova, samba, reggae, Motown, boom-bap, four-on-the-floor. Five for concert percussion: march, bolero, tarantella, swell and tutti. • Nineteen time signatures, in three families — simple, compound and irregular. Each style is written against the pulse of the bar rather than against "beat 2 of 4/4", so 6/8, 5/4, 11/8 and 2/2 are not special cases. A 7/8 rock groove exists because the rule does; so does a 6/8 march. • Five kits, all synthesised on your device: acoustic, 808, 909 — and Concert and Orchestral, which are the same voices re-voiced as timpani, tam-tam, triangle, tambourine, suspended cymbal and concert bass drum. • Section feels: half-time, double-time, broken, build and stop-time. The control names the bars it will change before it changes them, so a chorus goes half-time and nothing else moves. • Density, Motion, Fills and Swing — and a tempo you can type exactly, not just drag. • A real engraved percussion staff: two voices, hands up and feet down, beamed by the pulse, x noteheads for cymbals, ghost notes in brackets. • Export MIDI on General MIDI channel 10, or MusicXML as a percussion staff for NoteFlight, MuseScore, Sibelius or Dorico. A concert kit names its instruments properly on the way out. • Import a bass line and the kick locks to it. Import a drum part and Talea reads its style, density and swing off the file and moves the sliders to match — visibly. • Import from Anacru and its cycle rides over your bar as polymeter, phasing against it and realigning on a schedule the app shows you. • Fully offline. No account, no sign-in, no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription. • Talea collects nothing. Nothing leaves your device. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO It will not adopt an imported drum part for you to edit hit by hit. Talea is a generator, and a pattern it could not regenerate is a pattern its own controls cannot touch. It will not pretend to be a polymeter sequencer. Talea counts in one meter, and an imported cycle rides over it as a voice rather than as a second bar — because the thing that lets one style library serve 4/4 and 7/8 is a single pulse map.
