Start at the Dot teaches children how letters are actually formed, not just what they look like. Every letter begins on a green dot and follows an arrow. Strokes have to go in the right order and the right direction, and a stroke that stops halfway is gently erased so it can be tried again. That's the whole idea: a child who draws a passable "A" the wrong way round has learned a habit that gets harder to undo every year. Each letter is practiced three times, with the guides fading as they go. First trace the shape, then follow a thinner line, then write it with barely a hint. Uppercase A–Z, lowercase a–z, and the numbers 0–9. FOR GROWN-UPS • Writing size — start large, then step down to a true 8.7 mm between baselines, exactly matching wide-ruled paper, so the app can grow with your child. • How forgiving — set how far a stroke may wander before it counts as off the line. • Freeform mode — keep the line exactly as your child drew it, and shade each finished letter green, yellow, or red for how close it was. A page of their real handwriting, marked. • Letter order — A to Z, or grouped by stroke family the way many classrooms teach it. • A multiplication question guards the settings. Apple Pencil is fully supported, with palm rejection so a resting hand doesn't draw. No accounts. No advertising. No analytics. No internet connection at all, the app has no network access, and nothing your child does ever leaves the iPad.
