Store description excerpt

Squawk is a free, offline-first AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app that helps non-verbal and minimally verbal individuals communicate. No subscription, no account signup, no internet required for everyday use. Tap symbols to build sentences, and Squawk speaks them aloud. Every grid is fully customizable, from a toddler's first words to an adult's daily vocabulary. FEATURES • Real symbol art: thousands of ARASAAC pictogram symbols, or add your own photos from your camera, photo library, or the web • Core words & grammar: an optional fixed row of common words stays in the same place on every grid, plus buttons to turn a word into "-ing," "-ed," and more, so motor planning carries over between boards • Record your own voice: capture a custom voice clip for any button instead of text-to-speech, in your voice or a loved one's • Natural text-to-speech: choose from every voice installed on your device, including premium and enhanced quality voices, or type a message directly instead of tapping symbols • Fully customizable grids: resize, rearrange, recolor, and link boards together; pick from multiple grid styles and layouts • Age-appropriate starter vocabularies: Toddler, Child, Teen, and Adult packs to get going immediately • Parental & therapist controls: lock settings and grid editing behind a PIN, and hide any UI element you don't want visible • Whiteboard: a simple drawing space for freeform communication • Switch scanning: accessibility support for switch-based input • Export, share & switch apps freely: back up any grid or your whole vocabulary as a single file, and import it on another device. Squawk also supports Open Board Format, so you can bring boards in from other AAC apps like CoughDrop and TouchChat, or take your Squawk boards with you elsewhere • Private iCloud backup: your vocabulary backs up automatically to your own private iCloud storage, so a lost or reset device never means losing everything you've built. Nothing is ever uploaded anywhere except your own private iCloud account • Works fully offline: no internet connection needed for everyday use; your data lives on your device Squawk was built to be a genuinely free alternative to AAC apps that can cost hundreds of dollars, without cutting corners on the features that actually matter for real communication.
