Sprout teaches a child to write — properly, from the first stroke. Most tracing apps check the shape. Sprout checks the order and the direction, because that is what a teacher checks, and it is the thing that has to be right before a child writes fluently. Start an 'a' in the wrong place and the letter still looks like an 'a' — until the day it has to be written quickly, and it falls apart. WHAT YOUR CHILD DOES • Traces every capital, every small letter and every digit from 0 to 9 with a finger • Hears the letter said aloud by a real recorded voice, not a robot • Meets the word behind it — A is for Apple — with a picture drawn for this app • Plays a game that asks for 'b' among b, d and p, so mirror-writing is trained out rather than ignored • Writes their own name, then real words FOUR HANDWRITING STYLES Schools disagree about letterforms. A French seven has a bar through it; a British one does not. Pick the hand your child's school actually teaches — Classic, European, Slanted or Simple — and every letter, number and word in the app is redrawn in it. Change it any time. WRITTEN IN YOUR LANGUAGE, NOT TRANSLATED INTO IT Sprout is not an English app with the buttons swapped. Each language has its own alphabet, its own words behind the letters, and its own recorded human voice. A Turkish child learns Ç and Ğ. A Spanish child learns Ñ. The picture for each letter is chosen so the word actually starts with that letter in that language.
