Store description excerpt
Spadaddled is a memory game about looking closely. A pixel-art animal appears for a few seconds. Then it is gone, and two of them stand where it was. One is exactly what you saw. The other has been altered — a shifted colour, a moved ear, a missing shadow, a mirrored patch of fur. Pick the exact match. The look starts at just over four seconds. It shrinks every level, down to a shade over one, and there is no level at which it stops getting harder to hold in your head. TWO MODES RUN — three lives. Five correct in a row buys one back, up to five held at once. Streaks multiply the score: two times at three in a row, three times at five, five times at ten. One wrong answer and the multiplier is gone. ZEN — no lives, no fail state, nothing to lose. The mode for unwinding rather than competing. A DIFFERENCE YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND The alteration is generated fresh every round, never authored, and then measured before you ever see it. A change is thrown away unless it moves enough pixels, is strong enough to actually perceive, and sits clear of the edges. Harder levels make the difference smaller, quieter, and hide it somewhere busy — they never bend a fairness rule to do it. There is no round you cannot win by looking properly. TWENTY ANIMALS, FOUR WORLDS Fox, rabbit, deer, badger, cat, bear and wolf in the woodland. Owl, crow, cardinal, bluebird, parrot and bat in the sky. Goldfish, crab, turtle, frog and snail in the water. Snake and alligator in the wilds. Each one is added to your collection the first time you meet it. SOUND MADE, NOT PLAYED There is not one audio file in this game. Every kick, snare, hat and bassline is synthesised while you play — boom-bap at 92 BPM, or a two-step break at 170, whichever you prefer. Layers join as your streak climbs and strip back when you miss. BUILT TO BE PLAYABLE Colour-blind safe mode. A longer look, 1.6 times the normal time, for anyone who wants one — it protects the fastest levels too, not just the early ones. Reduce motion. An optional CRT filter if you want the scanlines. Separate music and sound volumes. HOW IT IS PAID FOR Spadaddled is free, and adverts pay for it. A short one after some runs — not every run, and never two close together — and one you can choose to watch in exchange for an extra life. Nothing is ever shown during a round, because the whole game is looking closely at two pictures and an advert in the middle of that would be a different game. You are asked before any personalised advertising happens, and Settings → Ad privacy choices changes that answer whenever you like. WHAT IT STILL DOES NOT DO No in-app purchases. No accounts. No sign-in. No analytics. Nothing you do in this game is sent to us — there is no server behind it, and no way for us to know who you are. Your scores, your collection and your settings live on your phone and nowhere else. The animal sprites were generated with Grok Imagine and edited for the game.
