Store description excerpt

Songtrail turns every walk into a little discovery. Hear a bird singing and hold up your phone: it names the singer. Spot a flash of color and snap a photo: it names what it sees. Every find you make goes into your own collectible field book. It's built for noticing, not for cramming. Songtrail isn't an exhaustive scientific database of thousands of near-identical species. It's a hand-picked set of 150 common North American birds. An obtainable collection meant to get anyone into the habit of getting outside and paying attention to the birds already around them. TWO WAYS TO MEET A BIRD - Listen: record a few seconds of song and Songtrail picks out the singer. - Spot: point your camera and it finds the bird in the frame, then names it. Instead of confidently announcing one answer and being quietly wrong, Songtrail shows a ranked list of candidates with confidence scores and lets you make the final call; the way real birding works. IT ALL HAPPENS ON YOUR PHONE The identification models are bundled right into the app and run entirely on your device using Apple's on-device machine learning. There's no bird-ID service in the cloud to phone home to. That means: - It works fully offline. Deep in a forest with no bars, it still works. - It's instant, with no upload and no server queue. - Your photos, recordings, and location stay on your phone. No account. No sign-up. No ads. No trackers. COLLECT A FIELD BOOK - 150 common North American birds to find, each with its own illustrated card. - Every bird belongs to one of four habitats: Forest, Garden, Water, and Meadow. Each with its own color, so your collection reads at a glance. - See your finds pinned on a map and look back over the birds along your favorite routes. - Earn badges for early mornings, filled-out habitats, and lucky rare sightings. MORE ACCURATE WHERE YOU'RE STANDING Songtrail gently weighs each guess by where you are, the season, and the time of day. An owl at 2 p.m. is less likely than an owl at 2 a.m. Location is optional; deny it and identification still works, just without the local nudge. EXPLORE SAFELY The nearby map is a prediction about your area, not a route. Pins are estimates spread around you, not real birds, and they can land on private land or water. Stay on public paths, follow local access rules, keep your distance from the birds and their nests, and never enter somewhere risky to chase a find. Younger birders should explore with an adult. Good for curious walkers, families, new birders, and anyone who's ever heard a song and wished they knew who was singing. Get outside. Meet the birds. Collect all 150.
