Your phone is now a sound machine. A good one. Sleep Mode plays sound all night and does nothing else. One hundred sounds, a mixer that layers them, a timer that fades instead of stopping, and a wake-up that brightens instead of buzzing. The screen goes dark. The rain does not. ONE HUNDRED SOUNDS, MASTERED FOR ALL-NIGHT LOOPING Rain, wind, ocean, streams, crickets. Box fans, hair dryers, the hum of a refrigerator. Trains, highway drives, airplane cabins. Noise in white, pink, brown, green and grey. Womb and heartbeat. Music boxes playing public-domain lullabies, slowly. Three NASA mission recordings, for sleeping somewhere else entirely. Every sound is loudness-matched and cut to loop without a seam. No gap, no click, no restart you can hear at 3am. All one hundred ship inside the app — nothing streams, nothing downloads later. THE MIXER Layer rain over a fan. Put the heartbeat underneath, quietly. Each layer gets its own fader, the mix gets a name, and tomorrow night it is one tap away. There is a "Same as last night" button, because that is the actual request at bedtime. THE TIMER Fifteen minutes or all night, nudged in fifteen-minute steps. When time runs out the sound fades over minutes — it does not cut to silence and wake you with the quiet. GENTLE WAKE Twenty minutes before your wake time, the sound starts to brighten. Birdsong on top, or simply louder, or nothing at all — your choice. No buzzing, ever. On iOS 26 and later, Sleep Mode can also schedule a real system alarm as a backstop, so you are woken even if playback stops overnight. On earlier versions of iOS the backstop option simply is not shown. One honest note: Gentle Wake works because the app plays all night. If you force-quit it before bed, nothing is running to wake you. That is what the backstop alarm is for. STATS WITHOUT FICTION Sleep Mode keeps a log of your last seven nights: what played, and for how long. It knows when sound was playing. It does not know whether you were asleep, and it will not draw you a sleep-quality score invented from a wrist. The log lives on the phone and goes nowhere. NO NETWORK No account. No analytics. No network. The App Store call is the only one, and it's Apple's. Everything — all one hundred sounds, the mixer, the timer, the stats — works in airplane mode, at a cabin with no signal, and in the middle seat of a red-eye. FROM THE MAKERS OF BABY MODE Sleep Mode is the second app in the Mode family. The first one, Baby Mode, is for the other person in the house who won't sleep. WHAT IT COSTS Sleep Mode is free to download and opens with a 7-day free trial of everything. After the trial it needs the subscription. There is no cut-down free version — the trial is the free version, and it is the whole app. Sleep Mode Full — $2.99 per month after a 7-day free trial.
