Store description excerpt

Slate turns the phone already in your pocket into a single-purpose reading device for your child. Open Slate Time and the phone becomes a slate: a library of classic tales and nothing else. No browser. No feed. No notifications. No next-episode autoplay waiting to catch a five-year-old's attention. When the day's reading is done, Slate says so and stops - it does not hand your child an open phone. WHAT IS INSIDE A library of classic tales - Aesop, Panchatantra, and the stories that have been told to children for centuries - retold and illustrated for the age you set. Every tale is told more than one way: picture-play for the youngest, read-along with narration for children finding their feet as readers. Narration is always available, so a child who cannot yet read can still use Slate alone. Reading earns play. Finish a tale and your child unlocks a few minutes of quiet play - a small, gentle game with a clear end, not a feed without one. However many minutes they earn, the daily limit you set still holds, and you can switch play off entirely. The screen is styled to read like paper: grayscale, high-contrast, glow-free. It is not an e-ink display and we will not pretend it is. It is your phone's own screen, calmed right down. LEAVING SLATE TIME, HONESTLY Slate Time ends with your phone's own lock - Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. There is no separate parent code to remember, and your child cannot end Slate Time from inside the app without it. We want to be precise about what that is and is not. With your permission, Slate Lock uses Apple's own Screen Time to keep every other app waiting while Slate Time runs: a child who swipes home finds every other app behind Slate's own notice, and Slate still open. It is Apple's mechanism, switched on once and off the moment you end the session, and it reads nothing about how the phone is used. If you would rather not grant Screen Time access, Guided Access (Settings > Accessibility) does the same job the older way: Slate waits for you to turn it on with a triple-click before a session starts, and ends the session the moment it is switched off. WE COLLECT NOTHING ABOUT YOUR CHILD Not "we anonymise it". Nothing about your child is ever sent anywhere. There are no child profiles, no progress files, no behavioural records, and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs anywhere in this app. A kid space is a nickname and an age range that you choose, and it never leaves the phone. Minutes read and minutes earned are calculated on the device, shown to you, and never transmitted. What we do hold is your own phone number, because that is how you sign in and how your subscription is recognised. That is the entire list. We are governed by India's DPDP Act, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time - including from inside the app. PRICING Slate begins with 7 days of full access, free. No card, no trial that quietly becomes a charge. After that: - Slate Monthly - Rs. 149 per month - Slate Ann
