Powada is a very famous poetry genre in Maharashtra which unfolds the literature and music engulfed in the Veer- rasa. We find powada reffered to as “pawad” in the famous epic Dnyaneshwari. Citizens form the nation. So it is very important from a nation’s success point of view to induce the Veer-rasa in its citizens. A single powada has the power to overshadow ten inspirational speeches. From this we come to know how the ‘Shahirs’ play an important role in development of the society and how much we need them. Numerous eminent brave warriors and their warfare success stories have been documented since ages. Till today we go through the brave stories of lord Indra, lord Ganesha, and lord Sun etc. in the mantras, from the Vedic times. These mantras which reflect the “veer rasa” are to be recited and not to be sung. And powada is such form of a poetry that holds a unique position because it is of a different genre as compared to these veer-rasa compositions. It is sung in such an impressive way that it leaves a mark on the minds of the commons.
