You don't remember most of them. The ones you do — the email address you spell out letter by letter, to somebody who mishears one of them — are miserable to say out loud. See Text keeps the few you actually need, one tap from filling the screen, or from the clipboard. SHOW IT. OR COPY IT. Tap a saved snippet and the text fills the screen automatically. No pinching, no sizing. Somebody a metre away can read it, and you never say a word. • Swipe sideways for the next one, like photos. Tap to go back. • One tap copies it, exactly as you typed it. Nothing is reformatted behind your back. • One more tap turns it into a QR code, for when the other side would rather scan than type. NOT A NOTES APP Your notes app will find a car plate. In tens of seconds, while a stranger waits. That is not merely slower: you stop being someone reading out a number and become someone operating a search box in front of a queue. It is where people give up and go back to memory or a photo of a document. This one holds a handful of items, so you get to the thing without conducting a search. There is a search field for the day your list outgrows a glance. Most days you won't reach for it. A NOTE, FOR WHEN THE VALUE ISN'T THE WHOLE STORY A passport number is only good until it expires. A card is only the current one until you replace it. Add a note and the row says so, in your own words: “valid until 2029”, “the old card”. It stays out of the label, which is what you scan, and out of the text, which is what you show. PROTECTED SNIPPETS OPEN WITH FACE ID Mark a snippet sensitive and it leaves your main list for its own screen, behind Face ID or Touch ID. • The name is shown. The content never is. • Swiping between snippets can't land you on a protected one by accident. • A protected snippet keeps its note to itself. • The shortcut on the main screen can be switched off, so nothing there suggests you keep any. • Recently Deleted asks for Face ID too, so deleting something protected doesn't unprotect it. THE SCREEN STAYS ON WHILE THEY READ IT Nothing is more useless than a phone that goes dark halfway through somebody copying your booking number. Hold the screen on for three minutes, or thirty. Plugged in, it stays on with no time limit, for propping the phone up as a sign when you can't print one. This isn't guaranteed: iOS can still lock the screen when Low Power Mode is on or the battery is low. The app says so where you set it, too. MADE TO BE READ • Show text in capitals, so a lowercase l stops looking like a capital I. • Group digits in threes, so a long number can be read back without losing the place. • Extend that grouping to codes with letters: a plate, a booking reference, a password.
