Store description excerpt

A pañcāṅga, a saṃkalpa, and a record of your practice — all computed for the place you are actually standing. THE THREE SANDHYĀS Each sandhyā has three grades, and none of them is a clock time. Uttama while the stars are still visible, madhyama once they have gone, adhama after the sun is up. The app computes all three windows for your own latitude and the day's own sunrise, and tells you which one you are in right now. Reminders are set against your own windows and shift through the year as your sunrise does. Mark prātaḥ, mādhyāhnika and sāyaṃ as you keep them. If you keep only one or two, tell the app which and it will track and remind you for those rather than nagging about the rest. A PAÑCĀṄGA THAT FOLLOWS THE DAY Most pañcāṅgas name the tithi, nakṣatra, yoga and karaṇa current at sunrise and leave it there. But a day rarely has one of each. This app carries all of them, advances to the one current as the hours pass, and marks with a +1 anything running past midnight. • Tithi, nakṣatra, yoga, karaṇa with start and end times • Vāra, pakṣa, māsa, ṛtu, ayana, saṃvatsara • Sunrise, sunset and solar noon for your exact location • Brahma muhūrta and abhijit • Rāhukālam, yamagaṇḍam and gulika • Choghadiya for the whole day and night • Festival days The choghadiya are given for both halves — eight parts of the day, eight of the night — each marked auspicious, neutral or to be avoided, with the one running now picked out. They are eighths of your own daylight, so they move with your latitude and the season, not fixed clock times. Tithi, nakṣatra, yoga, karaṇa and the festival days are read from the pañcāṅga published by Śrī Śāradā Pīṭham, Sringeri, rather than computed independently and then disagreeing with the Peetham. Outside the published range the app falls back to a Sūrya-Siddhānta calculation and tells you so. A SAṂKALPA THAT IS TRUE OF YOU The saṃkalpa is a statement of fact — the dvīpa, the varṣa, the quadrant you occupy from your anchor kṣetra, the rivers you stand between, the sea beside you, your city, and then the day itself. Recited from a template learnt in another town, most of it is simply untrue of the person saying it. So the app derives it. The rivers are real courses, not latitudes: it knows which bank you stand on because it measures to the nearest point on the actual course. The Sanskrit is declined properly, so a place becomes भाग्यनगरे and not a name with a suffix stuck on. Choose your anchor kṣetra — Kāśī, Tirupati, Śrīśailam, Purī, Rāmeśvaram and others. Add your name and gotram. Read it in your own script, in Devanāgarī, or in Roman. Tap any part to see what it means. THE ATLAS A map of every place the app can name in Sanskrit, with the rivers of the saṃkalpa drawn along their true courses. Tap a place to see its Indic name and the form actually recited. YOUR PRACTICE OVER TIME A japa counter for the Gāyatrī with haptic feedback, so you are not watching the screen while you count. A streak that survives reinstalli
