Store description excerpt
Most idle games make you wait because waiting is the monetization lever. Rot & Ferment makes you wait because that's what fermentation actually is. You run a small cellar: a few crocks, jars, and barrels, and a rotating cast of things worth aging - sourdough, kimchi, sauerkraut, yoghurt, kefir, tomme, cider, wine. Start a batch, and it needs real time. Minutes for a quick ferment, hours overnight, a full day for something worth the wait. THE DECISION ISN'T "WHEN IS IT DONE" - IT'S "WHAT DESERVES THIS VESSEL RIGHT NOW" Every batch rises in value, peaks, then slowly drifts past its best. Pull it early for safe, modest money. Hold it to the peak for the real payoff. Forget about it, and it doesn't spoil to nothing - it just costs you the upside. Nothing in this cellar punishes you for living your life. Each recipe leans one of two ways: • Safe - a wide, forgiving window. Never loses money, whenever you get back to it. • Greedy - a narrow peak and a steep drop-off. Higher reward, if you're actually on time. That choice repeats across six absence lengths, from "checking my phone right now" to "see you in the morning" - so there's always a right answer for how long you're actually going to be gone. BUILD THE CELLAR THAT LETS YOU AGE MORE Early recipes are ready in minutes. The long, valuable ferments - the tomme, the wine - are locked behind upgrades: more crocks, a cold cellar, humidity control. Every upgrade widens a window or slows a decay, so the game never turns into "wait less, click more." It turns into "cellar space is scarce, spend it well." Offline the whole time? Your batches keep aging without you. Come back to a full report of what happened while you were away. No forced ads, no pay-to-skip pressure. If a boost ever helps, it's your call, not the game's.
