What is the Rooted Carrot Co-Op? Our mission is to open a member-owned, full-service grocery store in Cedar Falls. Food Co-ops work differently than regular grocery stores. Co-ops are owned by the members, who purchase a share in the co-op and become member-owners, thereby enjoying several benefits and responsibilities as owners of the store. They also may receive special discounts and exclusive access to products and resources. The Rooted Carrot Co-op will specialize in local, healthy and organic food, produce and personal care items. We are about providing healthy choices, but we are also about building community and caring for our community. Co-ops return close to 40% more of their revenue back to the community, as compared to conventional grocery stores. Like other co-ops around the world, the Rooted Carrot Co-op recognizes and is guided by the 7 Cooperative Principles. These are: 1. Voluntary and open membership 2. Democratic member control 3.
