Store description excerpt
Identify any rock or mineral in seconds. Rock & Mineral ID turns your phone into a pocket mineralogist. Point the camera, tap once, and get the species name, mineral classification, chemical formula, Mohs hardness, density, and crystal system of whatever you're holding — across 6,000+ identifiable species. What you get • AI identification — Google Gemini 2.5 vision + Anthropic Claude double-check on the tricky ones, with an honest confidence chip so you know when to trust the call and when to grab a loupe. • Mohs hardness scale — every result shows where the specimen sits on the 1–10 hardness scale, with a visual gauge that calls out when the range straddles two whole values (e.g., 5.5–6 for brookite). • Mineral chemistry — formula in proper Unicode-with-subscripts form (TiO₂, FeS₂, M₄Al₆Si₃₀O₇₂·H₂O), classification (oxide, sulfide, silicate, carbonate...), and crystal system. • IPA pronunciation — never butcher "chalcopyrite" or "stibnite" again. Tap the audio button to hear it spoken (where the pronunciation is known). • Tell me more — formation, uses, and notable history in 1–3 honest sentences. No padding, no AI hallucinations dressed up as facts. • Local collection — every saved find auto-stores with the captured photo, classification, and Mohs range. No accounts, no sync, no cloud — your collection lives on your phone forever or until you uninstall. Why Rock & Mineral ID is free The app is supported by ads. Scanning, identification, and your collection are all free forever. We never run ads on the camera or the result card itself — only between sessions, and at most every 4th scan. What we don't do - No accounts, no email, no password. - No cloud sync, no analytics on your scans, no shared collection visible to anyone but you. - No subscription, no in-app purchases, no "premium tier". - We don't grade gems for valuation — for that, see a certified gemologist (GIA / IGI / EGL). - We don't promise 100% accuracy on novice photos. The confidence chip and the alternates list are there because mineral identification from a single photo is genuinely hard, and pretending otherwise would mislead you. Limitations to know - Best results on cleaned specimens in good light. Crusted, weathered, or partial samples will get an "uncertain" tier and an alternates list. - We can't tell synthetic from natural for some gems (e.g., synthetic vs. natural quartz). When that matters, get a professional opinion. - Mohs hardness is a guideline; actual hardness varies within a species. Built and supported by one developer. Mustapha is a solo dev in Morocco who built this because the existing rock ID apps either cost $50/yr or hallucinate confidently on basic specimens. Rock & Mineral ID is what he wished existed. Feedback goes straight to his inbox via the in-app contact form.
