Store description excerpt
Remember when your music was YOURS? When you owned it. When it lived on a shelf, not on a server. When the deck had real buttons, amber displays that glowed in the dark, and VU meters that danced with the bass. No login. No feed. No algorithm deciding what you'd like next. Retro Deck brings that back — and I'll be honest, I love this thing. It plays the MP3s already on your phone. That's it. That's the whole idea. And it looks like it belongs in a rack of separates from 1985: brushed-metal panels, warm amber readouts, a stereo VU meter, chunky transport keys that are big enough to hit without looking. GENUINELY OFFLINE — NOT "PRIVACY-FRIENDLY", ACTUALLY OFFLINE Most apps promise privacy. This one can't break the promise, because it cannot connect to anything. Retro Deck does not request the internet permission at all. Not for ads. Not for analytics. Not for "crash reporting". Android itself will not let this app open a network connection — you can verify it in the app's permission list before you ever press play. Which means: • No data is collected. • No data is shared. • No data is sold. Not now, not in a future update where the terms quietly changed. • No accounts. No sign-up. No email address. No profile. • No ads. No trackers. No telemetry. No "anonymous usage statistics". • No cloud, no sync, no library scanning phoning home. The app asks permission to read the audio files on your device, and (on newer Android versions) to post a playback notification. Nothing else. Your listening habits stay on your phone, because there is nowhere else for them to go. EVERYTHING IT DOES PLAYBACK • Play, Pause, and a proper Stop — the old-school kind that halts the tape and rewinds to 00:00 • Next and Previous track • Scrub anywhere with the seek bar, with elapsed and remaining time in glowing amber • Shuffle • Repeat: off, repeat all, or repeat one • Keeps playing in the background, with lock-screen and notification controls YOUR LIBRARY • Automatically finds the music already stored on your device • Instant search across title, artist, and album • Tap any track to play it — no menus to hunt through MIX TAPES (PLAYLISTS) • Create as many as you like • Add any track to any tape, remove tracks, delete tapes • Play a whole tape start to finish • Stored as a plain file on your phone IN THE CAR • Connect over Bluetooth and your head unit gets the full standard treatment: play, pause, skip, and seek from the dashboard or the steering wheel • Track title, artist, album, and cover art appear on the car's display • Every track carries artwork — embedded album art when the file has it, a Retro Deck cassette cover when it doesn't • Works with Android Auto where your car supports it, so you can browse your library and mix tapes from the car screen • Tested with Mercedes-Benz MBUX, and built on the same standards every other car uses BUILT WITH CARE • High-contrast displays and large touch targets — readable at a glance, usable without squinting • Screen
