Store description excerpt
The Reader app is the simplest in the SDG Apps study suite, an easy interface to read selected passages of Scripture. The Reader primarily provides the app suite database that is used by other SDG Apps to provide a smooth, integrated study experience. As such, it must be installed to use the other apps. Using the app is fairly straightforward; press the passage selection button on the top of the main screen to select a passage. You will then be taken to a passage selection screen where you can select the first and last verses of the passage(s), as well as the translation from which to read them. Multiple Translation Support! The default translation is the King James Version (KJV). The Reina Valera (1602) has been provided for Spanish readers as well. The Reader uses Bibles encoded by the Open Scriptures Information Standard (OSIS - see http://wiki.crosswire.org/OSIS_Bibles). The Add Translation button may be used again to add additional translations. Once it is pressed, a dialog will appear in which the URL for an OSIS-encoded Bible's XML file can be entered. The XML file will be downloaded and the translation stored in the Reader's Bible database. Multiple App Integration! If you press the button to the right of the passage selection on the main page, a list of other SDG Apps that have been run will appear. Selecting an app from this list will open the app with the Reader's currently selected passage. Passage Search! Pressing the magnifying glass at the bottom of the reader main screen will bring up a passage search screen. This can be used to find a set of verses to study. This can be a powerful tool combined with the multiple app integration described above. For example, you can search for 'grace wisdom', to search for verses containing both these words. More powerfully, checking the Advanced Search allows you to use logic operators, for example '(grace OR wisdom) AND NOT proud'. Once the search results are loaded, pressing a verse will load it for study; or, long-pressing a verse will open a menu to select multiple verses for study. Once the verses are loaded in the main screen, they can then be opened in other installed SDG Apps as well.
