Radon is a radioactive noble gas. It is formed when natural uranium from the earth decays. The amount of radon in soil, air, drinking water and indoor spaces varies regionally. Higher concentrations are often detected in low mountain ranges and in the foothills of the Alps. The Federal Office for Radiation Protection has carried out measurements for the whole of Germany and created maps that show how much radon occurs in the soil and can be released. However, exact data about the radon content at your location can only be determined through measurements. Radon can affect your health. Studies show that inhaling large amounts of radon and its radioactive decay products over a long period of time increases the risk of lung cancer. Our Radon Dose app calculates your personal effective radon radiation dose. For the calculation, you enter the measured or estimated radon concentration where you are and the duration of your stay. You can differentiate between place of work and place of residence. Your radon radiation dose is given in millisieverts (mSv) per year. Comparative values help you to better classify the result. Please note: The calculated dose is only an estimate. It is intended to help you better estimate the radon radiation dose. However, it should not be understood as a health prediction.
