Store description excerpt

QuietNight is a sound machine that does not charge you for its sounds, with an alarm that does not jolt you awake. All nine sounds are free, unlimited, and always will be. There is no sound you have to pay to unlock, no daily cap, and no advert. SOUNDS - Brown, pink and white noise - Box fan - Rain on a window - Ocean surf - Mountain stream - Wind through trees - Aeroplane cabin Nothing here is a recording. Every sound is synthesised as it plays, sample by sample. Three things follow from that, and you will notice all of them: - There is no loop. Most sound apps play a short clip end to end, and once you have heard the seam you cannot un-hear it. QuietNight has no seam because there is nothing to loop. - The app is a few megabytes, not a few hundred. Nothing to download, nothing to wait for. - Play it for eight hours and it never repeats itself. WAKING UP Most alarms go from silence to a siren in one step. QuietNight starts the sound you chose at a level you cannot hear, up to thirty minutes early, and raises it until you surface on your own. Pick the sound, the rise, the days, and the snooze - or no snooze at all. Being straight about how it reaches you: if sound is still playing when the alarm is due, QuietNight wakes you through the audio itself, which ignores the ring/silent switch and is the only way the slow rise can work. If nothing is playing, iOS has put the app to sleep and a notification does the waking, following your ringer setting like any other notification. Both are armed every time, and the app says which is which. Even the alarm tone is generated on your phone rather than shipped as a file. MIX AND TIME Layer as many sounds as you like and set each one's level independently. The sleep timer fades the last minute out gradually instead of cutting off, because a sudden silence wakes people up. PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND Lock the screen, switch apps, control it from the Lock Screen. Pull your headphones out and it stops rather than waking the room. FREE EVERY MONTH Every sound, unlimited mixing, the sleep timer and background playback are free with no cap at all. Alarms are the one metered thing: ten wake-ups a month, free, for everyone, resetting on the first. That is enough to wake up every weekday for a fortnight. QUIETNIGHT PLUS Plus lifts the alarm cap and the saved-mix cap: unlimited wake-ups, unlimited saved mixes. The free version keeps one saved mix and every single sound. It is $2.99 a month, $9.99 a year, or $14.99 once and forever - your choice, all three shown plainly, and there is no free trial. Alarms you already scheduled still go off if you run out; only new ones wait for next month. WHAT QUIETNIGHT DOES NOT DO No account. No sign-in. No analytics. No advertising SDK. No network request except to Apple when you buy Plus. Turn on Airplane Mode and everything still works. QuietNight makes no claim about your sleep, your health or your concentration. It plays sounds, and it wakes you up. What that is worth is
