Store description excerpt
There is one secret word. You have unlimited guesses and no timer — but the only clue you ever get is how close your guess is in meaning. Guess "tea" and you might be told it is the 3rd closest word. Guess "bicycle" and it might be the 806th. Every word you try comes back with a rank, and that rank is the whole game: it tells you not just that you are wrong, but which direction to think in. HOW IT WORKS • Type any word. Proximity ranks it by how close its meaning is to the secret. • Rank 1 is the answer. The lower the number, the warmer you are. • The colours do the work — red is a different world entirely, yellow is the right neighbourhood, green means you are nearly there. • The scale is logarithmic, so going from 900 to 400 is a small step, and going from 20 to 8 is a big one. Spelling never matters. Letters never matter. Only meaning. TWO WAYS TO PLAY Daily puzzle — one word a day, the same word for every player, with a new one at midnight. Keep a streak going. Practice — a random word whenever you want, as many rounds as you like. FEATURES • Over 800 daily puzzles: more than two years of play • Unlimited guesses, no timer, no pressure • Hints when you are stuck, revealing a word roughly halfway to the answer • Full statistics: games played, win rate, current and best streak, and your fewest-guesses record • Plurals and common verb endings are matched automatically, so "running" finds "run" • Today's puzzle is saved if you close the app mid-game • A dark interface built entirely around the colour scale PLAYS WITHOUT A CONNECTION No account. No sign-up. The whole word space ships inside the app, so you can play on a plane, underground, or anywhere with no signal. Your guesses never leave your device. Proximity is a game about how words relate to one another. Some days the answer arrives in six guesses. Some days you circle it for an hour, watching the numbers creep down. Both are the point.
