A LIVE CLARITY SCORE At the top of the editor sits a single number from 0 to 100. It blends a real readability index with how densely your writing leans on hard sentences, passive voice, adverbs, complex words, and filler. Tighten a line and watch the score climb. It's the fastest feedback loop in your writing. COLOR-CODED HIGHLIGHTS, AS YOU TYPE Proselens paints your text inline, the moment you stop typing: • Very hard sentence — very long or tangled; break it up. • Hard sentence — long or dense; consider splitting it. • Passive voice — "to be" plus a past participle; active voice is clearer. • Adverb — an -ly adverb a stronger verb could replace. • Weasel word — vague qualifiers and filler that add nothing. • Complex word — a long word with a simpler everyday alternative. Tap any highlight, or any chip in the legend, to jump straight to it. Step through every issue from the keyboard bar. Turn off any check you don't care about and the counts and score update instantly. THE NUMBERS THAT MATTER • Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch–Kincaid grade level • Gunning Fog, SMOG, Automated Readability Index, and Coleman-Liau — four additional grade-level indices for a fuller picture • Writing Target — pick an intended audience and compare transparent English-prose estimates with a reference band • Sentence Review — get audience-aware plain-language actions and jump directly to priority sentences • Revision snapshots — compare before/after text and metrics, then restore earlier work safely • Recoverable library — versioned atomic saves, backup recovery, migration, and bounded import/export • Reading time at a speed you set • Words, sentences, paragraphs, and characters • Average words per sentence and syllables per word A clean stats sheet lays it all out, with a plain-English read on what your score means and how to lift it. WORD FREQUENCY Tap "Word Frequency" in the Stats sheet to see which content words you rely on most, ranked by count with frequency bars. A Type-Token Ratio tells you at a glance whether your vocabulary is High, Good, Fair, or Low variety. Stop words, articles, and filler are excluded so only the words that carry meaning show up. SENTENCE LENGTH DISTRIBUTION The Stats sheet includes a visual bar chart showing the length of every sentence in your document, color-coded green, amber, or red by the same hard and very-hard thresholds as the editor.
