Store description excerpt

Playa Pal is a companion for Black Rock City that works with the network switched off. There is no signal out there, and there is no server behind this app. Everything lives on your phone: the 2026 event guide, a survival manual you can read straight through, the city map, a whiteout compass, your camp's board, your friends, and a pod of phones that find each other, carry messages, and talk out loud with no network between them. WHAT WORKS IN AIRPLANE MODE • The week's events. 6,500+ listings with times, camps and real clock addresses. Search them, or heart the ones you want and get your own lineup in time order, with walk and bike times to each. • The survival guide, plus credited summaries of veteran-burner talks and camp lore, all readable straight through. • The whole city, drawn from measured geometry. Streets, plazas, toilet banks, your pins, your people, your blue dot. It is a few kilobytes of math, so there is nothing to download. • The whiteout compass. One giant arrow, the distance, and clock-address directions from wherever you stand. Drop a pin at camp and Take me home points you back at 3am. • Your pod. Your people, keeping track of each other with no signal: which way, how far. Leave typed or spoken messages that hop phone to phone until they arrive. Hold the walkie button and the pod hears you. • Your camp's board of gifts and needs, and friend cards that travel inside a QR code rather than through anybody's server. THE PLAYA ANGEL, IF YOU WANT HER Every tool above works before any AI model is installed. Add the Playa Angel, a small open model that runs on the phone itself, and you can ask in plain words instead of searching. She reads the guide stored on your phone and shows you the passages she read. Every word is generated in your hand, and nothing you ask leaves it. BUILT THIS YEAR, FOR THIS YEAR Playa Pal was written in the weeks before the 2026 burn, and it is going out there for the first time. Some of what it does has been measured between two phones on a workbench and has never met a whole camp. We say which is which in the app and in the project's public notes, we would rather tell you that than let you find out at 4am, and updates land often. If something holds up in the dust, or falls over, tell us: the support link goes straight to the people who wrote it. HONEST BY DESIGN The roster never lists a phone it cannot reach. A button that could not work is not drawn. A damaged voice note says so instead of playing silence. Message speed is never promised: the app tells you whether you are living in seconds, minutes, or the next time you walk past each other. FREE, AND GIVEN AWAY Playa Pal costs nothing and carries no advertising. There is no account to make, and the app tells us nothing about you, not even when it crashes. Everything it knows stays on the phone, so there is nothing to mine and nowhere to send it. Playa Pal is published by a 501(c)(3) and given to the city as a gift. Playa Pal is not affiliated w
