PhotoClean gathers the photos you were never going to keep — bursts, retakes, screenshots, oversized videos — and lets you deal with them in batches. ■ Similar shots arrive as a group Photos taken seconds apart at the same size are shown as one group. Tap "Keep one" and everything except the keeper — your favorite, or failing that the highest-resolution shot — is marked for deletion. No squinting at pairs of near-identical pictures. ■ Four ways in ・Similar photos — bursts and retakes of almost the same thing ・Screenshots — the ones you were never going to open again ・Large videos — usually the biggest single win ・Large photos — high-resolution shots that take the most room Anything marked as a favourite is left out of every list. ■ Shrink big videos instead of deleting them (Premium) Videos you want to keep but cannot afford to store are re-encoded with H.265 so they take up less room. Capture date and location are carried over, so nothing moves around in your Photos timeline. The quality drops a little, and the originals go to Recently Deleted. ■ Deleted, and recoverable for 30 days Deleting from this app moves the items into Recently Deleted in Photos. For 30 days you can put anything back from the Photos app, so you can afford to be decisive. iOS shows its own confirmation sheet immediately before anything is deleted. The app cannot skip it. ■ Your photos do not leave the device The app reads metadata only: capture date, resolution, media type. The thumbnails in each list are rendered on the device, and nothing — no photo, no thumbnail — is uploaded or copied anywhere. The one time anything is downloaded is when you zoom into a photo or play a video that lives only in iCloud: it is fetched from your own iCloud so it can be shown to you. ■ About the sizes shown iOS offers no fast, public way to read the exact file size of an individual photo. Every size in this app is therefore an estimate, worked out from resolution and, for video, duration. Read the numbers as a rough guide: the space you actually get back will be somewhat more or less. ■ Premium, bought once Without Premium you can delete up to 50 items a day. Premium also lets you shrink large videos instead of deleting them, lifts the daily limit and removes the ads. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
