Every photo your phone takes carries hidden data you never see. Inside the file sit the exact GPS coordinates where it was taken, the time, your camera's make, model and serial number, the app that edited it, and a small uncropped preview of the original frame. Videos carry the same thing inside their container. Share that file on a marketplace listing, a forum or a chat, and you may be handing over your home address. MetaClean finds that data and removes it. WHAT METACLEAN LOOKS FOR MetaClean inspects six separate categories of hidden metadata: • Location — GPS latitude and longitude, altitude, speed, bearing, and IPTC location names • Device fingerprint — camera make, model, body serial number, lens model and lens serial • Software trails — the app that edited the file, original file paths, system usernames • Hidden thumbnails — the small uncropped preview EXIF keeps, which can still show what you cropped out • Timestamps — original capture time, digitised time and UTC offset • Personal and AI tags — creator, copyright, caption, keywords, and the IPTC 2025.1 AI provenance fields Every file gets a threat score, so the risky ones are obvious at a glance. One tap filters your gallery down to just the photos and videos that are leaking GPS. VIDEO, NOT ONLY PHOTOS Most metadata cleaners stop at images. MetaClean also reads MP4, MOV, M4V and 3GP video, and neutralises the GPS, device, encoder and creation-date atoms inside the container. Video is cleaned in place. Nothing is re-encoded, no frame is touched and the file length never changes, so the cleaned clip plays exactly like the original at full quality. You can play both copies inside the app and switch between ORIGINAL and SANITIZED to confirm that for yourself before you delete anything. ONE-TAP PRESETS • Social Media — strips GPS, hidden thumbnails and device serial numbers • Marketplace Seller — adds seller telemetry and file paths • Strict Anonymous — purges all six categories Or open Customize and pick exactly which categories to remove. BATCH CLEANING Select as many photos and videos as you like and clean them in a single pass, with live progress and a cancel button. Your originals are never modified — MetaClean always writes a separate cleaned copy. IT TELLS YOU WHAT IT CANNOT SEE This is the part most cleaners get wrong. When MetaClean cannot parse a file's container — AVI, MKV and WebM among them — it says so and marks the file UNVERIFIED, instead of quietly reporting "no metadata found". When a scan has only covered part of an album, it shows you exactly how much. You are never told a file is safe just because the app failed to read it.
