Peel turns a printed skincare ingredient list into a clear formula grade. It explains the letter in plain language and names the matched ingredients that helped or lowered it. Point the camera at an English ingredient list or choose a photo. Text recognition, ingredient matching, grading, and personalization happen on your iPhone. There is no account, analytics, or tracking, and Peel does not upload photos or scan data. WHY PEEL • Explainable formula grade: see the letter in plain language, scan coverage, and every matched ingredient that helped or lowered the result. The visible grade math starts at zero, a neutral C, and shows the net change from matched ingredients. • Optional personalization: set skin type, tone, concerns, sensitivity, and ingredient cautions. Your profile stays in local app storage. • Ingredient receipts: open reviewed ingredient notes and linked PubMed or DOI source records where available. • Honest scan limits: label items Peel cannot match are shown for review and never counted as positive or negative. They may be OCR mistakes, packaging text, trade names, or catalog gaps. If too little of the label is matched, Peel withholds the grade and asks for a rescan. • Sunscreen evidence: Peel reports captured SPF, Broad Spectrum or PA, and water-resistance wording as package claims. It does not calculate protection from filter percentages. • White-cast check: get a separate, unscored, banded wearability estimate when enough of a mineral sunscreen formula is readable. • Shelf and routine: save products locally, assign them to AM or PM, and see named ingredient-pair cautions and myth corrections. • Truths with receipts: explore common skincare claims alongside source notes. A NOTE ON GRADES Peel’s formula grade is a non-validated cosmetic heuristic based on the captured label and optional profile. It is not a medical, safety, toxicity, or sunscreen-protection rating or a guarantee of results. OCR can miss tiny, curved, reflective, or damaged text; review the captured list and rescan when needed. Peel provides cosmetic information, not medical advice. Patch-test new products.
