New subscribers start with a free trial. After it, Packing List needs a paid subscription, and that is what unlocks everything described below. Answer a few questions about your trip and get a list you can actually pack from. Most packing apps hand you the same list every time. This one does the arithmetic your trip needs: a pair of socks a night plus a spare, stopping at seven if there is a washing machine where you are staying, or at ten if it all has to fit in a carry-on. Two adults get two toothbrushes and one tube of toothpaste, not two of everything. TAP A NUMBER, SEE THE SUM Tap a number and the app shows the sum behind it: twelve nights plus a spare is thirteen, capped at ten because it all has to fit in a carry-on. So you can check a count rather than take it on trust. Disagree with one and set your own, and the rules leave it alone from then on. THE LIST KNOWS THE TRIP A beach week asks for a swimsuit, sandals and a beach towel. A ski trip asks for a base layer, goggles, snow boots and gloves. Leaving the country adds your passport and a travel adapter, and travelling with a baby adds a category of its own. Change the trip later and the app tells you what saving will do before you save it. IT IS YOURS TO CHANGE Delete a suggestion and it stays deleted, even after you add three nights or switch to a checked bag. Add your own items and they survive too. Tick things off as they go in the bag and the list remembers where you got to. ONE APP, EVERY TRIP Keep a trip per journey. A new one starts clean instead of opening half ticked off from the last holiday, and you can switch between them at any time. Send a list to whoever is packing the other half of the bag.
