Outstep is the walking app for people who like a proper walk: nearly 3,000 signposted routes across the UK, from a Sunday loop round the park to a section of the Pennine Way. Free, with no account, no subscription and no adverts. FIND A WALK NEAR YOU Open the map and the routes around you are already on it: public footpaths, coast paths, canal towpaths and waymarked local trails. Search the whole country by name, or show only what is nearby, under an hour, easy, or a loop. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE IN FOR Every route shows its distance, ascent, estimated time and the landmarks along the way, and where there are photographs, they were taken on the walk itself. Routes in Great Britain give the grid reference of the official start, so a paper map and your phone agree on where to begin. TAKE IT WITH YOU Save a route before you set off and it comes with you: the line to follow, the landmarks and the grid reference, all there when there is no signal. Routes load as you explore, so save the ones you want while you are still in range. WALK IT Start from the official start, or join wherever you are and walk in either direction. Lock the phone and put it in your pocket: the Lock Screen shows how far is left, when you should be back and what is coming up next. Stray off the path and Outstep tells you, and shows where you are against the route. It notices when you stop for a rest, knows when you have arrived, and warns you before you set off if you would be finishing after dark. MAKE YOUR OWN Plan a route by placing waypoints, draw a loop of whatever distance you fancy from where you are standing, or record a walk as you go. Your own routes and your walk history stay on your phone, and export as GPX or GeoJSON whenever you want them somewhere else. WALKS BY WALKERS Every route is a real signposted path, mapped by the people who walk it. After a walk, rate it or leave a short review for the next person, anonymously. Outstep is made by one person. Your precise location never leaves your phone, and there is nothing to sign up for.
