Store description excerpt

A timer for one meditation sitting, split into three phases: anapana → vipassana → metta. Nothing else. No accounts, no network, no analytics, no ads, no reminders, no streaks. Free forever. FOR PEOPLE WHO ALREADY SIT It is made for people who have sat a ten-day course and know what to do when the gong sounds. It teaches nothing: no instruction, no guidance, no recordings, no course material — only gongs and time. If you have not sat a course, this app will not teach you the technique, and no app can. The technique is taught on ten-day courses in the tradition of S. N. Goenka, given free of charge — dhamma.org. This app is not connected with them in any way. WHY THREE PHASES A sitting has a shape, and the app only marks its boundaries with sound so you don't have to watch the clock. • Anapana — the short opening. • Vipassana — the main and longest part. • Metta — the short closing. What actually happens inside each phase is what the course is for. You will not find it here. HOW IT WORKS • Set the total length, from 5 minutes to 3 hours. The split is calculated for you — one hour becomes 5 / 52 / 3 by default. • Presets are rules, not fixed lengths: fixed edges (5 min and 3 min), proportional (17% and 10%), or no anapana. Vipassana always takes the rest, so the parts always add up. You can add your own. • A high gong opens and closes the sitting; a low gong marks the beginning and the end of vipassana. Recordings of a real singing bowl. • Gongs play through the silent switch and with the screen locked, and are scheduled in advance so they stay on time. • The session screen is black and empty. Touch it to reveal the current phase and the time left for about five seconds, then it fades back to black. There is an optional always-visible timer with a progress ring, off by default. • Apple Watch: the same session, with a haptic tap at every gong, and a black face that stays black in Always-On. • Ending early takes a one-second hold. There is no pause: either you are sitting or you are not. APPLE HEALTH The time you actually sat is written to Apple Health as a mindfulness session — also when you end early, so what is recorded is what you sat, not what you planned. Sittings shorter than a minute are skipped. The app asks for permission once and only ever writes: it reads nothing back from Health. If you say no, everything else works exactly the same. PRIVACY The app has no networking code at all. Nothing is collected, nothing is sent, nothing to sign into. Your sittings stay in Health, on your device and in your own iCloud. Settings sync between your iPhone and Apple Watch through the same iCloud account. An independent app, made by one person. Not a medical device and not a substitute for care of any kind.
