Store description excerpt
Read the years, zodiac and luck days of Japan — on one line In Japan, years are counted two ways at once. 2026 is also Reiwa 8, and official forms, licences, certificates and museum labels often use only the second form. Nenrin puts both on the same line, for every year from 1600 to 2100. Note: the app's interface is available in English, but the calendar data it shows — era names, zodiac signs, rokuyo — stays in Japanese, because that is how you will meet it on real documents. Readings are given in romaji, and tapping any of these terms opens an explanation of what it means and where it came from. ■ The list ・Western year, Japanese era year, zodiac animal and age on one line ・Opens centred on the current year ・Transition years show both era names, e.g. Keio 4 / Meiji 1 ・Covers the Edo period eras, not just the modern ones ・For Myself and birthday entries, the current year clearly distinguishes the age reached on the birthday from the age today ■ Three ways to read it ・Age — how old someone born in each year is today. No birth date needed ・Myself — how old you are in each year, from your date of birth ・Roster — ages for saved birthdays, or year-by-year counts for wedding anniversaries, company founding dates and other milestones ■ Jump ・Jump by age, Western year, or era year ・Converts era years that never existed, such as Showa 100 or Reiwa -20 ・The converted year appears as you type, so you get the answer without jumping ■ Any year in detail ・A full calendar, month by month ・Rokuyo, the six-day luck cycle used to choose wedding and funeral dates ・The moon phase for each day ・The moon as you would see it that evening; 大安 taian is marked in red and full moons in yellow ・Era transition days are marked in place ・Tap any term — an era name, zodiac sign, rokuyo, nine-star sign, yakudoshi or gaju — to read what it means and where it came from ・Write a note of up to 400 characters on any year ■ Optional columns ・干支 eto — the zodiac animal, with its full sixty-cycle name ・九星 kyusei — your nine-star sign ・School entry and graduation years ・賀寿 gaju — longevity celebrations such as 還暦 kanreki at 60 ・厄年 yakudoshi — the unlucky years people visit a shrine for ■ Made to be readable ・Ages use the modern birthday-based count, with optional 数え年 kazoedoshi guidance ・Beginner mode explains each screen ・Four text sizes ・Light and dark appearance ・iPhone and iPad, portrait and landscape ■ Who it is for ・Anyone reading Japanese documents, licences or family registers ・Students of Japanese language, history or genealogy ・Residents of Japan filling in official forms ・Anyone who wants to understand how Japanese culture marks time — eras, zodiac cycles, lucky days ・Anyone curious about how Japan counts its years
