Store description excerpt
MurMur Picture Dictionary is a slow educational app designed to support vocabulary development and early language acquisition in young children. Through more than 700 words, children learn to observe, recognize, listen to and name the world around them. Each word is paired with an image, its written form and its pronunciation, creating a clear link between what children see, what they hear and what they encounter in everyday life. MurMur was designed to offer a gentle, stable and reassuring digital experience. The interface is deliberately simple, allowing the image, the word and the sound to take center stage. Visual cues remain consistent, animations are subtle, and children can explore the content at their own pace. This approach encourages calmer, more attentive screen use. Children take the time to look, listen, repeat and memorize, without being constantly stimulated. When carefully chosen and used within an appropriate setting, a screen can become a meaningful tool for discovery, language development and shared moments. The vocabulary is organized into six familiar worlds: • Home • Everyday life • Learning • Nature • Animals • My body These worlds include many categories: the kitchen, the bedroom, clothes, transport, toys, fruits, vegetables, colors, numbers, emotions, animals, body parts, actions and many more. MurMur Picture Dictionary is available in French and English. More languages will be added soon to support bilingual children, multilingual families and children discovering a new language. The app also includes a "Seek and Find" mini-game. From a vocabulary page, an oral instruction asks the child to find a specific image, for example: "On the page, find the pillow." The child then selects the correct card from the images displayed. Navigation follows a simple path: 1. The child chooses a world. 2. They select a category. 3. They explore a vocabulary page. Large cards, readable titles and consistently placed buttons make the app intuitive to use and support children's growing independence. MurMur can be used at home, with a parent or independently for a defined period of time, but also at school, in preschool or in the early years of primary school. The app provides a helpful tool for developing vocabulary and working on oral comprehension, naming, categorization and memorization. It can also support children learning a new language, and may be used by speech therapists as well as early childhood professionals during language-based activities. A parental area allows adults to choose the language, adjureen time. A daily time limit can be set to guide thechild's use of the app and adapt it to their rhythm. MurMur Picture Dictionary offers a measured, calm and consistent digital experience, where children can observe, listen and discover words without overstimulation.
