Store description excerpt

Mobility Mapper is a free app created by a wheeler, for wheelers — people who use wheelchairs, mobility scooters, handcycles, tricycles and other wheeled mobility devices. Most maps can tell drivers, walkers and cyclists which way to go — but they can't say whether a route is genuinely passable on wheels. A suggested route can hide steps, steep slopes, rough surfaces, narrow paths, impossible crossings and missing dropped kerbs. Mobility Mapper is building the UK's first dedicated wheelable route network from the real journeys wheelers already make — and every journey you record helps build it. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Record your journeys. Tap Start journey and travel as usual — your route is captured by GPS with your screen locked and your phone away. Real journeys become real-world evidence of which streets, paths and crossings are genuinely wheelable. • Report barriers. Steps, steep slopes, uneven surfaces, unusable kerbs, gates, bollards, narrow paths — or anything else, described in your own words. Pin them where they are, add a photo, and other wheelers know what to expect before they travel. • Find and add accessible toilets. Check RADAR key access, Changing Places, opening times and charges before you go; add and photograph the toilets you know. • Map Blue Badge parking. Accessible bays, charges, height limits and more — find spaces near where you're going, and add the ones the map is missing. • Check before you go. Browse the map anywhere, not just where you are — barriers, toilets and parking load wherever you look, and tapping a place shows details like opening hours and contact info. • Confirm what others have found. One tap says "still there, still right" — so the map stays accurate as places change. And when someone confirms something you added, you'll get a message. • Use it anywhere. No signal? Everything still works: record, report and add places, photos included. It all uploads itself when you're back online. WHY IT MATTERS Every contribution joins a growing shared resource, owned by the community building it. The wheelable network will be the foundation for navigation designed around wheeled mobility — routes based on where wheelers have actually travelled, not assumptions about accessibility. And the same evidence helps councils, planners and transport bodies see exactly where streets and public spaces need to work better. JOIN THE RESEARCH PILOT Mobility Mapper is running a research pilot open to wheelers across England. Join from the Home screen and help shape how the wheelable network gets built. BUILT FOR ACCESSIBILITY Made by and for disabled people, so built to be accessible: screen-reader support throughout — including a "What's in this area" readout on the map — text up to 200% size, and WCAG-compliant contrast. YOUR PRIVACY Mobility Mapper collects location data to record your journey even when the app is closed or not in use. That happens only while a journey is recording, and only after you start one.
