MDViewer opens any Markdown file and shows it the way it was meant to be read: real headings, clean typography, syntax-highlighted code, proper tables, and images in place. When something needs changing, switch to the editor, type, and save straight back to the file on disk. It is a native macOS app — not a browser in a wrapper. It launches instantly, uses the fonts and appearance your Mac already uses, and works with the files you already have. No account, no subscription, no internet connection. READ • Formatted rendering of headings, lists, tables, block quotes, links and images • Syntax highlighting for code blocks in 18 languages: Swift, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Ruby, Go, Rust, Java, Kotlin, C, C++, Objective-C, C#, PHP, shell, SQL, JSON, YAML and TOML • Front matter from Obsidian, Jekyll and Hugo shown as a table of its keys and values, not as stray heading text • GitHub-style callouts — [!NOTE], [!TIP], [!IMPORTANT], [!WARNING] and [!CAUTION] • Footnotes collected and numbered at the foot of the document, with a link back to where you were reading • Tick task-list checkboxes directly in the reader — the change is written back into the file • Adjustable text size and content width, so a long document stays comfortable • Light, dark, or follow the system appearance • Word count, reading time, lines of code, tables and images for the open document • Find in document, with next and previous match on ⌘G and ⇧⌘G • The open document reloads by itself when another app writes to it — a build script, an editor, a sync client — and warns you instead of overwriting if you have unsaved edits IN FINDER • Quick Look — press the space bar on a Markdown file and read it formatted, without opening the app • Open With hands the document to your real editor; MDViewer remembers the one you pick • Reveal in Finder, Copy Path, and Always on Top (⌃⌘T) to keep a document in sight while you work elsewhere BROWSE A FOLDER • Open a whole folder and move between its Markdown files from the sidebar • Filter the sidebar by file name, or search the text inside every document in the folder • Refresh the folder with ⌘R after files are added or renamed outside the app EDIT IN PLACE • A real Markdown editor with the source syntax highlighted as you type • Live preview alongside the editor, so you see the result while you write • Keyboard shortcuts for bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links, headings, bullet and numbered lists, quotes and code blocks • Continuation of lists and quotes on the next line, the way you would expect • Save writes back to the original file — nothing is imported into a private library and nothing is converted EXPORT AND SHARE • Export as HTML or PDF • Copy as rich text, ready to paste into Mail, Notes, Pages or a chat window • Copy the generated HTML source for a CMS or a static site • Print with the same typography you read on screen PRIVACY MDViewer collects nothing.
