Store description excerpt
MarkRead is a simple, stylish markdown reader for iPhone and iPad, built entirely in SwiftUI with no third-party dependencies, no account and no subscription. Bring your files in the way that suits you: link a folder (an iCloud Drive folder, an Obsidian vault, or a Git checkout) and MarkRead reads it in place without copying anything, so edits made elsewhere show up on refresh; import files directly into the app; or open documents from the Files app and other apps via the share sheet. Recognised extensions include md, markdown, mdown, mkd, mdtext, text and txt. Markdown is parsed and rendered from scratch, covering ATX and setext headings, emphasis and strikethrough, fenced and indented code blocks with syntax highlighting for Swift, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, shell, JSON, YAML/TOML, Rust, Go, C-family languages, HTML, CSS and SQL, ordered and unordered lists (including nested and task lists), block quotes, GitHub-style tables with column alignment, inline and autolinked links, highlighted text, horizontal rules, front matter titles and authors, and both local and remote images. Diagrams written as mermaid code blocks are rendered offline, no network connection or CDN is required, and can be tapped to view full-screen with pinch-to-zoom. For reading comfort there are ten colour themes (five light, five dark) that can follow your system appearance automatically, a choice of serif, sans, rounded or monospaced type from 14 to 28pt with adjustable line spacing, a heading outline with search, per-document reading position that's restored on reopen, a Continue Reading shelf, favourites, and a copy button on every code block. MarkRead requires iOS 17 or later.
