Mandarin for the Culture is an interactive learning companion designed to help young learners practice Mandarin Chinese while exploring language and culture in an engaging, accessible way. Created as a companion to the children’s book Mandarin for the Culture: A Cultural Passport from “The Chi” to Shanghai, the app extends learning beyond the pages of the book through interactive practice and activities. Young learners can: • Hear and practice Mandarin words and phrases • Build Chinese character recognition • Practice everyday dialogue • Test what they’ve learned through interactive activities • Earn stamps as they progress through lessons • Strengthen connections between language, culture, and everyday life Ajani, the in-app learning guide, helps learners navigate the experience and encourages them along the way. Mandarin for the Culture was created to make Mandarin learning welcoming and culturally relevant for young learners from diverse backgrounds. The experience introduces children to Chinese language and culture while encouraging curiosity, communication, and global awareness. The app is designed to complement the Mandarin for the Culture book and can also provide an introduction to the learning experience for families, educators, and young learners.
