There is an extraordinary blackthorn garden in Bra in the province of Cuneo that has been blooming in winter since the Madonna appeared to a young expectant mother, saving her from evildoers and helping her in giving birth. Between the ancient and the new Sanctuary of the "Madonna dei Fiori" of Bra, at the end of a long avenue of elms and plane trees, there is a garden of wild plums that bloom every year in mid-winter. Tradition dates this miracle back to 29 December 1336, when the Virgin appeared to protect the young bride Egidia Mathis, who was about to become a mother. The Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Fiori of Bra is one of the most important sanctuaries in Northern Italy. Very popular with tourists.
