Macehualtlahtolli Brief guide to everyday speech in Nahuatl in the state of Puebla • Brief reference book for the everyday spoken nahuatl language in the state of Puebla Estela Lopez Teodoro Jose Genaro Emiliano Medina Ramos Lizett Perez Castro Omar Antonio Ponce Carrillo projecthunabku@gmail.com Puebla, Mexico 2021-2022 -------------------------------------------------- ---------- This is the prototype of a brief guide to everyday speech in Nahuatl, for its variants from the center of Puebla (ncx) and from the northeastern Sierra of Puebla (ncj), with their respective meaning in Spanish and English. This guide is intended to include general notions for the following thematic axes: 1) courtesy phrases; 2) forms of interrogation; 3) connectors; 4) numbering and colors; 5) verbs; 6) adjectives; 7) names of the trousseau, places in the house and food; 8) places in the town and its surroundings; 9) time, spatial location, and sky; 10) family, kinship and psycho-corporeal identity; 12) existence and philosophy; and 13) additional notions. The authorship of the respective audios belongs to the nahuablantes José Genaro Emiliano Medina Ramos (ncx) and Estela López Teodoro (ncj), whose biography and general thoughts can be consulted in the Nahuablante app. Macehualtlahtolli is updated at least once every 15 days and is free. The app was built with FieldWorks, WeSay, Dictionary App Builder, Gimp, Audacity, and SirinStencil Font. The logo and its respective typography are based on an original design that holds a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license. Regarding the physical spaces where we have carried out the recording sessions, we appreciate the attention of the Casa de Cultura Tlanezcalli in San Andrés Cholula, the Cultural Complex, and the Hotel Mansión Azul in San Pedro Cholula. Finally, we appreciate the advice of Libby Quintana in the transcriptions into English. The full list of credits can be found in the "about" section in the app. • This is the prototype of a brief reference book for the everyday spoken Nahuatl language on two of its variants: Central Puebla Nahuatl (ncx) and Northern Puebla Nahuatl (ncj), including its proper translation in Spanish and English. The main epistemological areas that comprise this reference book are: 1) polite expressions; 2) interrogative sentences; 3) connectors; 4) numbering and colors; 5) verbs; 6) adjectives; 7) household effects, common areas of the house, and food; 8) places in town (pueblo) and its surroundings; 9) time, space, and sky elements; 10) family, kinship and mind-body identity; 11) life, existence and thought; and 12) additional concepts. The Nahua collaborators José Genaro Emiliano Medina Ramos (ncx) and Estela López Teodoro (ncj) hold the respective authorship for the voice clips included.
