Reactive training with LED lamps not only trains reaction speed, in which trainees respond to a stimulus, but also teaches proactive behaviour. Recognising sporting situations and adapting to sporting and everyday situations opens up a very wide range of applications for the lamps: from nursery schools to retirement homes, a wide variety of variations are conceivable. In particular, the games are ideal for training the executive functions that have become increasingly important in neuroscience in recent years: mental processes that enable better control and regulation of behaviour, attention and emotions. What are executive functions? Executive functions include, among other things: – setting goals, – strategic action planning to achieve these goals, – taking obstacles along the way into account, – deciding on priorities, – self-control (impulse control and emotion regulation), – working memory, conscious attention control, – goal-oriented initiation, – coordination and sequencing of actions, – motor implementation, observation of the results of actions and self-correction. Executive functions are of central importance in all areas of everyday life: they are indispensable for independent living and make self-discipline, good time management, implementation skills and reward deferral possible in the first place.
