kyagi is what social media was meant to be — updates from friends, with the only scroll that ends. Users have been going to extreme lengths to reduce time on social media: screen time limits, digital detox apps, physical devices that lock them out entirely. The problem is they still miss out on friends' updates, feel disconnected from the people who matter, and inevitably return. The goal isn't less social media — it's better social media. kyagi is built around a village: up to 40 close friends and family, so the feed is only populated with thoughts, photos, and voice memos from people users truly want to prioritize. Users select 20 core villagers, and the other 20 rotate in weekly from their full connections list, so someone they haven't heard from in a while might just show up on a random Tuesday. The nature of posts are meant to bring back the joy of social media in its early days. Prompts such as "I'm grateful for," "overheard," and "something I'd only tell 20 people" help users notice and share things that would normally slip by. As the feed ends due to the limited village, users are then prompted to make plans. Users can schedule hangouts ahead of time or send a flare — a one-tap broadcast that tells the village they're free right now, expiring in 24 hours. The app suggests activities for both IRL and long-distance friendships, whether that's grabbing coffee with someone down the street or FaceTiming a friend across the country while both do laundry. kyagi also functions as a modern address book: users set a home city, flag upcoming trips, and see which friends are nearby.
