Kotatsu is a native Jellyfin client for Apple TV. It brings the movies and shows on your home Jellyfin server to the living room, with an interface built for the couch rather than the browser. ■ Gets the most out of your server's hardware encoder Apple TV HD (the A8 generation) cannot decode HEVC / H.265 content — a limitation no client can work around on the device itself. Kotatsu solves it from the other side, with a DeviceProfile designed to reliably trigger hardware-assisted transcoding on the server. VA-API, Intel Quick Sync Video, NVIDIA NVENC and other encoders on your machine are put to work, streaming HEVC and 4K content as H.264 in real time without pinning your CPU. ■ SyncPlay, implemented natively Most tvOS Jellyfin clients wrap the web UI in a WebView. Kotatsu is written in SwiftUI and AVPlayer, with the SyncPlay protocol implemented directly against the server.
