Store description excerpt

Most Korean apps teach you to say things. Korio teaches you how the language is put together — and walks you through the TOPIK while it does it. Every word, every grammar point and every pronunciation rule in here is graded to a TOPIK level, so you always know what sits inside the exam you are taking and what belongs to the one after it. [10,635 words, graded] Levels 1 (735 words) and 2 (1,100) make up TOPIK I. Levels 3 to 6 add 1,655, 2,200, 2,365 and 2,580 more. All of it is sorted into 309 topics, so food, contracts or hospital vocabulary arrive as a set instead of at random. [The pronunciation lab] About a quarter of Korean vocabulary is not pronounced the way it is spelled — and none of it is arbitrary. The lab shows you the reason, rule by rule: liaison, tensification, nasalization, lateralization, palatalization, aspiration and h-deletion. Open any word and see which rules fired on it, and where. [336 grammar and conjugation items] Korean verbs and adjectives change shape, including seven irregular classes that break the usual pattern. Particles shift too, depending on whether the word in front of them ends in a consonant. Korio lays out the rule and every form it produces, instead of asking you to guess from examples. [Audio you can actually follow] Every word and every example sentence is pre-recorded. Play it at 0.6x, 0.8x or full speed — the slow word audio was recorded slowly rather than stretched, so it stays clean instead of smearing. Example sentences highlight the word you are studying in the form it takes inside the sentence, which is rarely the dictionary form. Shadowing mode listens while you repeat it back, on the device. [Start from zero if you need to] The Hangul onboarding takes you from the individual jamo up through final consonants, so the alphabet is behind you before the vocabulary starts. [Free and Pro] Free: all of TOPIK I — 1,835 words — the complete Hangul onboarding, the liaison and tensification rules, and 20 questions a day. Pro (monthly or yearly): TOPIK II levels 3 to 6, every pronunciation rule, the full grammar and conjugation module, and no daily limit. Works offline. No account, no sign-in. [Sources] The vocabulary and grammar level lists come from the National Institute of Korean Language's International Standard Curriculum for Korean Language (2017, four-stage edition), used under Korea Open Government License Type 1. Definitions, example sentences, translations and topic groupings are written by us — no dictionary text is reproduced.
