Store description excerpt
Konnakol is a practice app for the South Indian rhythmic solfège tradition — reciting patterns of syllables (sollu) over a tala (rhythmic cycle), the foundation of Carnatic rhythm. LESSONS 22 guided lessons build from "what is a tala" to genuine advanced cross-rhythms: every gati (tisra, misra, sankirna...), talas beyond the basic cycle, "second speed" density, and a preview of the tihai cadence — including lessons that let you hear a phrase drift across a steady beat instead of just subdividing it faster. PRACTICE A configurable tala/nadai metronome with independent phrase length, so you can recite a pattern that resets every beat, or one that runs continuously across the beat grid for real polyrhythmic practice. EXPLORER Build your own jati combinations and audition them in a loop — a sandbox for exploring korvai-style phrases. REAL VOICE, REAL TABLA, REAL DRONE Syllables are recited with real recorded voice samples, not synthesized speech. Switch to a tabla voice for a different color, or layer in an ambient tambura drone — each with its own volume control. HAND POSITIONS Watch the tala's clap, wave, and finger-count hand positions animate in sync with the beat, so you can learn the physical gestures alongside the syllables. Works entirely offline. No account, no ads, no data collection, no permissions requested.
